IEEE Week Proclamation

About Ottawa

Ottawa is the perfect place for the IEEE International Conference on Communications: it is a major national hi-tech centre, in fact it is the biggest industry in the city, and it uniquely combines an excellent balance of suburbia, rivers, parks and tourist attractions.

ICC 2012 attendees and their accompaniment(s) to Ottawa can expect a plethora of safe venues to keep them active, learned or entertained during the free time. Canadian Museum of Civilization

As the national museum of human history, the Canadian Museum of Civilization is committed to fostering in all Canadians a sense of their common identity and their shared past. At the same time, it hopes to promote understanding between the various cultural groups that are part of Canadian society.

  

 

 

National Gallery of Canada

The National Gallery of Canada holds the best collection of Canadian art in the world and has an international reputation for outstanding exhibitions. Its international acclaimed architecture and stunning interior spaces engage visitors in a unique and dramatic setting.

 

Canadian War Museum

A stunning architectural design, innovative exhibitions, diverse public programs and leading-edge scholarly content make the new Canadian War Museum one of the world’s most respected venues dedicated to the understanding of human conflict.

 

Canada Aviation Museum


The Canada Aviation Museum, Canada’s premier aeronautical museum is recognized as one of the most beautiful museums of its type. Among the best in the world, it houses some of the world’s most priceless aviation treasures. The spectacular Rockcliffe Parkway takes you directly from the conference site to the museum in less than ten minutes by car.
 

 

Canadian Museum of Nature

Canada's foremost natural history museum presents exhibits on the natural world. New bird, energy and fossil, and mammal galleries offer plenty to see and do, including hundreds of specimens, interactive elements and dioramas. On-site cinema screens high-definition movies.
 

 

ByWard Market

Established by Lt-Col. John By in 1826, the ByWard Market is one of Canada's oldest and largest public markets. The legendary builder of the Rideau Canal, Colonel By, laid out the street plan of the Market, designating George Street and York Street to be extra wide to accommodate the creation of a public market and gathering place.
Within an area roughly four blocks square, you will find museums, cafés, specialty food shops, boutiques, galleries, restaurants, pubs and more!

Canada's Capital Challenge - Connect, Communicate, Collaborate Team Activity

Sunday, June 10th to Saturday, June 16th
We organised special tours and outdoor activities (like a Norwegian spa day, trip to a heritage village, white water river rafting, biking tour and so on), for you and your companions that will help you see the city and enjoy it’s beauty and vibrancy.  Take advantage of the city orientation tour on Sunday to get a head start for the Connect●Communicate●Collaborate Team Activity that follows.

Sunday, June 10th
6PM at the Ottawa Convention Centre:  We orgainised a special complimentary team activity for you and your companions that reinforces our Connect●Communicate●Collaborate theme!  Everyone regardless of age, ability or interests will have fun exploring the downtown for answers to clues, doing a random act of kindness and providing proof. The PlaybookTM  tablet or any other digital camera with e-mail ability will come in handy.  Everyone gets a gift and the top three teams will be recognized on Wednesday with something special.

 

Mosaika Sound and Light Show

10PM at Parliament Hill:  At the end of this activity, everyone is invited to a special complimentary showing of the awesome award winning Mosaika Sound and Light Show on the footsteps of Canada’s government buildings, Parliament Hill.

VIA Rail is offering 10% discount on all of its ground transportation train services forconference participants of ICC 2012.

VALID: June 2 to June 23, 2012
TERRITORY: From all stations throughout the VIA system to Ottawa, Ontario and return.
RESTRICTIONS: Fare applies to a maximum of two passengers per booking. One complimentary stopover is allowed at no additional charge.
For travel on all fare plans in Business class, the first stopover is allowed at no additional charge, provided that this stopover takes place in Toronto, Montréal or Ottawa only.
